I first began photographing seriously in the late 1960s.

I studied with Oscar Bailey at the University of South Florida earning a B.A. in Fine Arts.

Oscar's sense of curiosity, gentle humor, whimsy, and encouragement were influences.

At the Rhode Island School of Design I was privileged to work with Aaron Siskind and Harry Callahan while earning my M.F.A. in Photography.

RISD provided me with the opportunity to meet and interact with influential photographers such as Lee Friedlander, Frederick Sommer, Emmet Gowin, Liset Model, Irving Penn, Gary Winogrand, Eva Rubenstein, and Walker Evans.

Some of my fellow grad students were huge influences, notably Peter Feresten (1945--2007) and Luther Smith, Jr. (Texas Christian University).

Other influences on my thinking and aesthetic include Walker Evans, Edward Hopper, Danny Lyon, and Larry Clark.

My work has been recognized by various scholarships, prizes, and awards, including an Individual Artist Fellowship from the National Endowment For the Arts.
